Dear Commissioner,

I am writing to voice my support for the Newton 9/11 Memorial Committee and its proposal to create a memorial site for the Newton residents that were lost on September 11, 2001. As the 10th Anniversary of this tragedy approaches, I believe it is vital that we commemorate those who were lost in our community.

This horrific event has greatly affected our nation and the lives of so many Americans, particularly here in the City of Newton who suffered unimaginable loss. I feel it is only fitting that we honor their memory and the grounds of City Hall is more than an appropriate setting to exhibit our city’s united remembrance of those we lost on 9/11.

This honorary site will not only be a tribute to the eight Newton residents who were lost that day, but also their families and the courageous men and women who first responded to the calls for help. This site will become a part of Newton’s history to memorialize those who were lost, suffered and experienced this terrible day in history. This project is privately funded and will not stray from design. It will fit within the landscape of City Hall without interference of other projects on the property.

I urge you to support this project and work with the 9/11 committee to lay the groundwork for this memorial site at City Hall. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Kay Khan
State Representative
